They Buried My Father..

.. at the new Veterans Cemetery in Sarasota. It just opened earlier this month and now my father's ashes are in the ground just in front of the (temporary) trailer that houses the offices there. The markers are temporary as well, but there is information on all my father's neighbors. Anglican names, latino names. Sergeants, privates, captains. Some passed away recently. Others died in recent years and were then moved to the new cemetery.

The service was simple. About 40 attended, including my family. Three members of the honor guard performed the service, beginning with the playing of taps, which was followed by the unfolding and refolding of the flag, which was stretched out as if there was a casket. The folded flag was then handed to my mother in the name of a great and grateful country.
